The CAHM Platform Technology includes 2 novel grinding machines: the Conjugate Anvil Hammer Mill (CAHM) replacing conventional tumbling mills such as Semi Autogenous Grinding (SAG) mills or HPGRs in coarse grinding and the MonoRoll for fine grinding applications. The machines leverage the principles of highly efficient thin bed particle breakage to achieve the same degree of breakage as conventional SAG or Ball Mills with >50% less energy. This technology also allows for less ancillary equipment resulting in simpler circuit configurations resulting in comminution circuit energy reductions of 65% and the related GHG emissions.
Conventional SAG, rod and ball mills operate by rotating the mill shell which contains grinding media such as steel balls or rods along with the ore feed stream As shown in the diagram below, the mill is rotated to that the bed comprised of the grinding media and the ore are carried up the side of the mill until they tumble down back into the bed n order to reduce the ore particle size. Only about 10% of the energy input actually breaks the ore particles as the balls collide with each other along with the ore. Most of the energy creates noise and heat.
The CAHM platform consists of an inner hammer roll within an outer anvil shell similar to a ring. The hammer and anvil rotate in a synchronous manner. Material is fed into the space above the hammer within the anvil shell and is broken between the two rolls as they rotate together. The technology also eliminates the use and cost of grinding media (steel balls).
KEY INNOVATION
Unconfined thin particle breakage is key the most energy efficient way to break rock. Particles exit machine as soon as they are created. “You cannot break rock by throwing it on a bed of sand”. Applicable to all hard rock and most soft rock mines in the world!

Energy Benefits:
- Eliminates crushing small rock
- Compression and shear fracture
- Maximizes voids allowing crushed rock to expand
- Synchronized crushing surfaces minimizing wear
